LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Wine Country Peruvian Paso Horse Club of Petaluma will return to perform at Fiesta of the Horse on July 27 at Rancho de la Fuente near Lakeport.
The club's lyrical 2012 performance entitled “The Courtship” was a choreographed romantic drama set to haunting Peruvian music. It was very well received by the appreciative audience.
“People have been asking me when will the Peruvians return,” said show producer Deb Baumann. “We're very happy that their schedule enables them to participate this year.”
The Wine Country Peruvian Paso Horse Club was founded in 1991, to celebrate a breed of light-saddle horse known for its smooth ride.
Peruvian Pasos demonstrate a lateral, four-beat motion instead of the up-and-down bouncing associated with trotting.
Energy is distributed in a side-to-side movement that is very comfortable for the rider.
The breed traces its origin to the 16th century when Conquistadores invaded the Incan Empire, bringing with them fine horses from Spain.
Over time, a unique breed developed in what would become the South American nation of Peru.
This is the third year that Fiesta of the Horse is being held at Rancho de la Fuente, located at 2290 Soda Bay Road near Lakeport.
This year, the horse show is expanding to become a part of Californio Days, a new event celebrating our history and agricultural heritage with music, food, arts and crafts.
Admission is free. The fiesta show begins at 10:30 a.m., lasting approximately 80 minutes.
Californio Days also features a farmers’ market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. where locally made crafts and good food can be purchased.
There will be displays and a lecture about California's “Golden Era” from the 1820s to the 1840s.
