KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – A one time date change pushed the November Fiddlers’ Jam at Ely Stage Stop and Country Museum to this Sunday, Nov. 9.

Note this is only for the month of November.

In December and going forward, the schedule will revert to the first Sunday of each month.

A little over a year ago the Ely volunteers began a partnership with the Northern California Old Time Fiddlers Association (also volunteers) and together they created this monthly Fiddlers' Jam.

Attendees frequently make donations and the money collected is split between Ely, to help fund a blacksmith shop that volunteers will soon be building, and the Fiddlers Association, who uses it to partially fund their scholarship programs.

The fun begins at the museum at 11 a.m. with the Fiddlers playing in the barn from noon through 2 p.m.

Celebrating Americana music, you will be treated to “old timey” tunes and some sing-alongs.

Come ready to clap your hands, tap your toes, and get up and dance. This free, family friendly event can be enjoyed by all, young and old alike.

Come early to enjoy all of the latest museum acquisitions and displays. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on one of the beautiful picnic tables.

Buy tickets for the next table to be raffled off at the Nov. 16 Lake County Historical Society annual holiday dinner.

Enjoy the music with beverages and tasty treats provided by the docents. Bring your own wine and sip it in Ely Stage Stop wine glasses that are available for purchase.

The stage stop, operated by the Lake County Historical Society, is located at 9921 Soda Bay Road (Highway 281) in Kelseyville.

Current hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday. Fiddlers' Jams occur the first Sunday of every month (this month excepted).

Visit www.elystagestop.com or www.lakecountyhistory.org , check out the stage stop on Facebook at www.facebook.com/elystagestop or call the museum at 707-533-9990.

CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. – Approximately 200 people braved the dicey weather on Oct. 25 to attend Cache Creek Vineyard’s inaugural Boots, Wine and BBQ concert event.

Up-and-coming country singer, McKenna Faith performed for the crowd and Running Creek Casino provided a phenomenal barbecue spread.

Wine specials were offered by the glass and bottle and beer from Kelsey Creek Brewing was available as well.

“This was a wonderful event,” said attendee Helen McCune. “Great friends, music, food, wine and beer from Kelsey Creek Brewing. We had a fantastic girl’s night out. The staff was so friendly and fun loving. I would love to attend another event like this.”

The menu included tri tip, chicken quarters, pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, red potato salad, baked beans and garlic bread.

Running Creek Executive Chef Matt Young provided an incredible meal, and Cache Creek Vineyards is excited to partner with him and the entire team at Running Creek Casino for future events.

“We were very pleased and honored to be a part of the ‘social event of the season’ in Lake County and to work with such an outstanding group of professional people at Cache Creek Vineyards,” said Frank Hughes, director of Food and Beverage at Running Creek Casino.

Despite sporadic rains leading up to the event, the event was relatively dry with just a sprinkle of rain as people first began to arrive.

Concertgoers were able to take shelter and stay cozy on a large covered patio that also has built in heaters.

The next event at Cache Creek Vineyards will be a Holiday Charity Faire on Dec. 6.

Tasting room open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 250 New Long Valley Road, Clearlake Oaks.

“Libraries are becoming family destinations, and are continuously offering new formats and innovative programs and services that educate, entertain and expand interaction with their users,” said Christopher Veach, director of the Lake County Library]. “Gaming is yet another example of how libraries are becoming more than just educational resources for the communities that they serve. They are also places where users of all ages are welcome to have fun together. And if that fun exercises their brains, enables them to meet new people in a safe and enjoyable environment, and celebrates our community’s connection to each other and to libraries on every continent on Earth... well, that’s just the nature of games!”

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake Redevelopment Oversight Board will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive.

Under business, the board will consider approving the agreement between the city of Clearlake and the Clearlake Successor Agency to transfer and expend excess 2006 bond proceeds and consider a resolution receiving and filing the State Controler's Office asset transfer review.

The board also will consider a resolution receiving and filing the State Department of Finance's determination letter approving the long range property management plan.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Middletown’s Gibson Museum will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, in addition to its usual Wednesday, Friday and Saturday afternoon hours.

In response to requests by veterans and their families who have donated items for the special Honor Our Veterans display, Gibson will observe its regular 1 to 5 p.m. hours on Thanksgiving weekend to allow visiting family members to enjoy the display.

The minuscule new museum is scarcely big enough to handle the plethora of memorabilia that has come in for the November display honoring local veterans.

Collecting and cataloging artifacts for this display has been poignant.

There are painstakingly preserved uniforms, some from World War II – 70-plus years old – as well as those that saw service in Korea and Vietnam.

Photos show faces touchingly young, intent on mammoth duties. One set denotes a local father and daughter who served, he in World War II, she only recently mustered out.

Individual display cases long cherished in local homes, filled with medals and ribbons and badges of honor, have been loaned.

Participants in the Mexican-American War, Civil War, and Revolutionary War are recognized in the rosters of Middletown Cemetery.

A compilation of all known Lake County service people will be available.

Those of us who never donned a uniform to go forth and help protect our rights and privileges know that debts of gratitude and respect are owed to the men and women who, willingly or by edict, gave their time, often their limbs or stability, and even their lives for our benefit. Gibson is making it easy to refresh our memories and tender our tributes.

The Gibson Museum has partnered with Operation “Tango Mike” as a collection drop-off point for donations that will be sent in Christmas boxes to our current troops serving overseas.

The display opened Nov. 3 and will be in place until Dec. 5, which portions to be retained through December.

The museum is located in the former Middletown Library building at Calistoga and Callayomi, across from the new Community Center.
