LAKEPORT, Calif. – The city of Lakeport will open the Westshore Pool for the summer season on June 1.

The pool will remain open through Aug. 1.

Hours for the public swim are noon to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

Daily pool entry fees for the summer public swim are as follows:

– 1 year and younger: Free.
– Ages 2 to 17: $3.
– Ages 18 and older: $4.
– Senior discount: $2.
– Family day pass: $15 (two adults and three youths).
– Lap swim: $2 per day, Monday through Thursday.

Punch card passes, the purchase of eight entries with two free, cost $24 for children ages 2 to 17; 18 years and older, $32; $16 for seniors; and $16 for the lap swim.

Swimming lessons will be offered for $60 per child. The lessons package includes eight classes during two-week sessions – 30-minute blocks for beginners and one-hour sessions for advanced beginners – that will be offered from June 8 through July 30.

Participants must be 3 years old and toilet trained. Enrollments are limited, and class-registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The swim lessons are not through American Red Cross, and the city will not issue Red Cross swimming certifications cards at the end of the session.

Lap swims from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday will be offered for those using the facility for exercise or event training. Youth 10 years of age and older may participate but must follow lap swim rules, which means no diving, jumping and yelling, and no horse play.

Candidates must be at least 15 years of age, be able to work early mornings and some night shifts for special events, have a current certification or be enrolled in a certification program for lifeguard training, first aid for the professional and CPR for the professional.

Lifeguard recruitment ends at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 21.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around the North Coast during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.

LAKE COUNTY

Highway 20

– Installation of a roundabout at the junction of Routes 20/29 will begin Wednesday, May 13. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Pavement repairs from Manzanita Road to Island Drive will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays.
 
Highway 29

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from the junction of Routes 29/53 to Diener Drive beginning Monday, May 11. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Pavement repairs from Main Street in Kelseyville to the Manning Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– PG&E has been issued a Caltrans encroachment permit for utility repairs near Old Stageroad Drive on Monday, May 11. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Highway repairs just north of Ocean Meadows Circle will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 101

– Caltrans will perform slide repairs near the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge (near Frog Woman Rock). Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. 

– PG&E has been issued a Caltrans encroachment permit for utility repairs near Mountain House Road on Wednesday, May 13. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Highway construction from Casteel Lane to Reynolds Highway will continue. Intermittent one-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– Pavement repairs from the Outlet Creek Bridge to Ryan Creek Road will begin Monday, May 11. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

Caltrans advises motorists to drive with caution when approaching work areas and to be prepared to stop at traffic control stations.
 
The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Beginning May 12, Joelle Zavaro-Brandon and Haji Warf will lead a brand new yarn club on the second Tuesday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. at Upper Lake Library, 310 Second St.

The free club is open to all ages and all skills levels.

“Participants who have projects in progress should bring their patterns and supplies for those projects,” said Linda Bushta of the Upper Lake library staff. “Beginners should bring yarn and either knitting needles or a crochet hook that matches the yarn size. Yarn club members bring their own projects and help one another with stitches and patterns.”

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Kelseyville Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast to benefit the Clear Lake High School and Kelseyville High School swim team and the Lake County Channel Cats on Sunday, May 10.

The breakfast will take place from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Lions Club, 4335 Sylar Lane.

The cost is $8 per person.

Breakfast includes choice of pancakes, ham, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, juice and coffee.

All moms get a carnation to help celebrate Mother’s Day. There also will be raffle prizes.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – A Lakeport tradition is one again planned for the upcoming Memorial Weekend.

Saturday, May 23, begins with the Lakeport Kiwanis/4-H Pancake Breakfast, served from 7 to 11 a.m. at 810 N. Main St. in Lakeport.

Pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, sausage and drinks will be served, with proceeds benefiting the 4-H County-wide Citizenship/Leadership Project.

The craft fair, held at the same location, will be open 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, and 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 24.

There will be fun for the whole family, including craft booths, prize drawings, rock wall, bounce house, kettle corn, live music and more.

The craft fair supports the Lakeport Kiwanis High School Scholarship Fund.

Be sure to make the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast and Craft Fair a part of your Memorial Weekend fun.

Lakeport Kiwanis Club is a group of volunteers dedicated to supporting youth and serving the community.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Public Services Director Caroline Chavez announced holiday hours for garbage disposal and curbside service for the Memorial Day weekend.

On Monday, May 25, all facilities will be closed and there will be no garbage pickup.

Curbside service will be delayed one day for the rest of the week.
