KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Kelseyville Tennis Advisory Board will hold its fall quarterly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. in Jeff McLaren's continuation high school classroom, located at Second and Lincoln.

On the agenda are necessary court repairs as the group prepares for the fall season. Plans for the fall preparations need to be approved. Input is welcomed and the community is invited to attend.

Other agenda topics include ongoing appointments for responsibility and roles in the Kelseyville Tennis Advisory Board.

NORTH COAST, Calif. “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” is the theme of Mendocino County’s Valley fire fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds in Ukiah.

Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman pulled together a group of local leaders, businesses and service clubs to organize a community-wide dinner, auction and music event to raise money supporting the long-term rebuilding efforts of our Lake County neighbors.

“Advance purchase of tickets is encouraged,” said Jennifer Seward, CEO of the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds where the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Valley Fire Fundraiser will be held. “We don’t want to run out of the delicious spaghetti and taco dinners prepared by the Ukiah Lions Club and Chavez Market.”

The $15 tickets (children under 6 are free) are available at Chavez Market on South State Street in Ukiah and Mendo Mill locations in Ukiah, Lakeport, Clearlake, Willits and Fort Bragg.

As an added bonus, Mike Mayfield, owner of Mendo Mill received confirmation that Stanley/Black & Decker/DeWalt will match each ticket purchase at Mendo Mill with an additional five dollars.

Mayfield noted people are coming in to purchase a dozen or more tickets each in case their friends and coworkers can’t get to one of the ticket locations.

One Valley fire ad hoc committee member plans to take orders from her colleagues and friends to make sure they get a ticket to what she portends will be the community event of the year.

All of the proceeds from the ticket sales, auction, raffle, t-shirts and drink sales will go to those most in need as a result of the horrific fires in Lake County.

North Coast Opportunities, the community action nonprofit agency for Mendocino and Lake Counties, is administering all the applications and directly sending checks.

“Neighbor Helping Neighbor” was an appropriate slogan for the committee that is putting together the fundraising dinner, music, auction and raffle event.

It turns out that the slogan belongs to Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits, which trademarked the phrase. As partners in the Valley fire fundraiser, Howard Hospital gave permission to use the slogan.

“In addition to the ticket match,” said Mayfield, “Stanley Black & Decker/DeWalt will contribute ten percent of Mendo Mill sales of all of their products for the month of October.”

The products include chain saws, drills, tool sets, weed blowers, kitchen appliances, storage containers, weed eaters, shop vacs and sanders, to name a few.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Public Works Department reported that ongoing work on N. Main Street will cause traffic delays on Friday, Oct. 23.

Traffic control will be in place while paving work takes place on N. Main Street between Sixth Street and Clearlake Avenue, the agency reported.

Lakeport Public Works thanked drivers for their patience while the work continues.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – A Halloween “Trunk-or-Treat” event paired with another installment of Middletown's popular “Movie in the Park” will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The free event will be held at Middletown Square Park from 5 to 8 p.m.

No costumes are needed to participate.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around the North Coast during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.
 
LAKE COUNTY

Highway 20

– Guardrail repairs from Blue Lakes Road to Saratoga Springs Road will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays.
 
– Pavement repairs from Rosemont Drive to the junction of Routes 20/53 will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m., or from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays.

– Lake County Special Districts has been granted a Caltrans encroachment permit to perform utility work from Paradise Cove to Mitchell Road through Friday, Oct. 23. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 29

– Valley Fire cleanup from the Lake/Napa County line to Hidden Valley will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays.
 
– Pavement repairs from Main Street in Kelseyville to the junction of Routes 29/175 near Lakeport will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays.
 
Highway 175

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from the county line to Mathews Road through Friday, Oct. 23. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Fire recovery work from the junction of Routes 29/175 in Middletown to Loch Lomond will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays.
 
MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Odom Lane to Parkview Drive through Friday, Oct. 23. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– Highway repairs just north of Ocean Meadows Circle will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
Highway 20

– Pavement repairs from Old Willits Road to just east of Road 350 will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays.

Highway 101

– Caltrans will perform slide repairs near the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge (near Frog Woman Rock). Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Pavement repairs from 0.3 miles north of Nelson Road to the Route 101/253 interchange will continue. Work hours are 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon through 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. In two-lane sections, one-way traffic control will be in effect, and motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays. In four-lane sections, traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction, and motorists should anticipate minor traffic slowdowns. At the Robinson Overcrossing and El Roble Overcrossing interchanges, ramps will be intermittently closed, and motorists should seek an alternate route. No consecutive offramps or onramps will be closed at the same time.
 
– Highway construction from Sherwood Road to the north Willits railroad crossing will continue through Saturday, Oct. 24. Intermittent one-way traffic control will be in effect from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Pavement repairs from Harwood Road to Rattlesnake Creek will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays.
 
– Bridge rehabilitation at the Jitney Gulch Bridge and the Bridges Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Bridge rehabilitation at various South Fork Eel River Bridges from Piercy to the Humboldt/Mendocino County line will continue. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should anticipate minor traffic slowdowns.
 
Highway 128

– Sink repairs from Shearing Creek to Maple Creek will continue through Friday, Oct. 23. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Sutter Lakeside Hospital proudly partnered with 4H and Stokes Ladders, to purchase a steer at the Lake County Fair and donate the meat to the Lakeport Senior Center and North Coast Opportunities.

Sutter Lakeside purchased half of the steer in collaboration with Stokes Ladders from 4H participant Cameron Graham.

“This is my fourth year in 4H and my first year raising a market steer,” said 13-year-old Cameron. “I’ve raised market hogs in the past, and won Reserve Supreme Grand Champion in 2012 and 2014. I spent over 100 hours on my fair project; I walked the steer over a mile a day as well as groomed and bathed him.”

Cameron used his auction profits from the last four years to purchase a truck, but his favorite part of 4H is the camaraderie.

“I love going to the fair and seeing all of my fair friends,” he said. “I already have money in the bank for next year’s project. I can’t thank Sutter Lakeside and Stokes Ladders enough for purchasing my steer.”

“This is the second year Sutter Lakeside has donated meat from the livestock auction,” said Jonathan Crooks, executive director of the Lakeport Senior Center. “Last year was lamb. This year we’ll use the meat for a volunteer appreciation meal and to feed our seniors. We feed about 300 seniors a day.”

Crooks has worked for the senior center for eight years and has been the executive director for five.

“I started volunteering as a driver for Meals on Wheels and fell in love with the people and the place. I love helping this community and feeding seniors,” said Crooks.

North Coast Opportunities, a community action organization focused on meeting the needs of low-income residents of Lake County, offers a food pantry on Wednesdays.

“NCO offers a full choice pantry with healthy options for our clients. It’s such a treat to offer fresh, local meat that was raised locally and benefits our community. We are all so thankful,” said Tammy Alakszay, community action coordinator for North Coast Opportunities. “We’ll distribute Sutter Lakeside’s meat donation over the next two weeks to make sure all of our clients get a chance to get some.”

“We’re proud to partner with our community to support the hard working kids of 4H and the organizations that are making a difference in our county, like the Lakeport Senior Center and North Coast Opportunities,” said Siri Nelson, chief administrative officer of Sutter Lakeside Hospital. “It’s great to see collaboration in action.”
