In this Caltrans News Flash, you get an up-close look as Caltrans transitions from 4-inch wide stripes to 6-inch wide stripes on the state highways, providing motorists with a better view of the road in darkness or inclement weather such as rain, snow and fog.

A key step in the process is adding reflective beads to the paint, which reflect a small amount of the vehicle’s headlights back to the driver – making the stripe readily visible.

The new striping will also make it easier for autonomous vehicles to “see” the lines and stay in their lanes.

This new striping program is just one of the many projects which have been accelerated thanks to Senate Bill 1, which will invest $5.4 billion a year to fix California’s transportation system.

SACRAMENTO – If you did not register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, following the October fires, but you are being contacted by phone or mail by FEMA or the U.S. Small Business Administration, or SBA, it’s a good bet your personal information has been compromised.
