LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Elle Snow, trafficking survivor and founder of Game Over, an anti-trafficking nonprofit, will be featured in a local radio interview this week and will appear at an event in Upper Lake later this month.

Snow will be interviewed on air by KPFZ radio programmer Olga Martin Steele at 10 a.m. Friday, June 23.

The call-in show is aired live on 88.1 FM. Find the show streaming live on the Internet go to www.kpfz.org

Snow will discuss the problems rural counties are experiencing as they become targets for predators who seek out the unsuspecting and most vulnerable in our communities.

Traffickers wear many disguises, blending in on the Internet, in our neighborhoods and in various organizations.

Prevention is key to protecting our communities. Through her nonprofit organization, Snow is helping to fight trafficking.

To find out how to identify trafficking and how to fight it from taking hold in our communities, listen in and feel free to call with your questions on 707-263-3435.

Snow also will be the featured speaker at the Soroptimist event, “Raising Awareness About Human Trafficking” on Friday, June 30, at 6 p.m. at The Lodge At Blue Lakes.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport branch of the Lake County Library, located at 1425 N. High St. in Lakeport, will be closed June 20 to 27 while the building is being reroofed.

The library will reopen when construction is complete but no later than Tuesday, June 27, at 10:15 a.m.

County librarian Christopher Veach announced the closure after determining that “fumes from the roofing materials make the library unsafe for patrons and staff. Construction noise and activity also make the facility unsuitable for providing library service during the construction project.”

The closure will affect some of Lakeport Library’s regularly scheduled programs and events this week. Storytime in Library Park at 10:15 a.m. Friday will happen as usual.

Lakeport Library’s Lego Club will be canceled this week. All teen events at Lakeport Library this week also are canceled.

Library patrons will still have access to library services at Redbud Library, 14785 Burns Valley Road in Clearlake, Middletown Library at 21256 Washington St. and Upper Lake Library at 310 Second Street, and online from the library Web site http://library.lakecountyca.gov .

Patrons also will be able to return their checked-out items at the outdoor book return at the Lakeport branch.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Konocti Rod and Gun Club and the Lake County 4-H are holding their 13th annual Free Family Fun Shoot on Saturday, August 5, at the shooting range across from Highland Springs parks.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All shooting supplies and firearms will be provided for free.

This event is a one-of-a-kind event in California. Many clubs have caught onto the “Family Fun Shoot” idea throughout the state and country and charge between $10 and $75 for participants.

This public event is unique, in that all the ammunition and firearms are provided, free of charge. One-on-one coaching at each shooting position maintains a safe and friendly learning environment.

The event is overseen by a certified range safety officer at all times and there are multiple instructors coaching the individual stations.

There are dozens of targets placed on the range from 25 feet to 200 yards. There are rubber and steel reactive targets, hanging plate steel and containers filled with flour. You'll know when you hit one of those.

On the line, they will have 10 different shooting stations to visit with a variety of firearms: .22-caliber single shot rifles, .22-caliber semi-auto rifles, center fire bolt action rifles, center fire semi-auto rifles, black powder rifles and 12- and 20-gauge shotguns.

One station even has a target retrieval system to bring your target back in so you can take it home.

This is truly a family oriented event. Parents and children alike have a great time and learn about safety, shooting and firearms, in a safe, fun and controlled environment.

There will be free safety literature on safe firearms handling and safe firearms storage in the home. There will be free gun locks for all participants.

Bring your family out for a free day of fun and safe shooting at the Konocti Rod and Gun Club range at the end of Highland Springs Road in Lakeport, across from Highland Springs Park.

A lunch of large hot dogs, chips and water will be provided free at the event.
