NORTH COAST, Calif. – Mendocino County Health and Human Services Agency Animal Care Services will be holding a silent auction of the livestock from the McNab Ranch location.

The livestock includes three adult cows, one calf, one steer, 21 goats and 33 sheep.

This is an “as-is” purchase.

The cows, calf and steer will be sold individually and the goats and sheep will be sold in lots.

Silent bids must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28. Successful bidders will be notified by Wednesday, March 5.

Successful bidders must pay and take possession of their livestock within three days after they are notified.

All interested bidders will be required to complete an application indicating the ability to care for the animals’ needs including veterinarian care and sufficient food, water and shelter.

Applications must be submitted in a separate envelope from the bid. Mendocino County HHSA Animal Care Services reserves the right to reject any application for any reason.

The bidder will be required to sign a statement indicating their awareness of the “as-is” condition of the livestock with no oral or written warranty.

Bidders also will authorize Animal Care Services reasonable access for the first year following the auction to assure the well-being of the animals concerned.

HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, Calif. – The Hidden Valley Lake Community Services District Board will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. at the Hidden Valley Lake CSD Administration Office boardroom, 19400 Hartmann Road.

Items for discussion and possible action include the midyear budget review, drought update, agenda for the February board workshop, feasibility of shifting district board member elections to even-numbered years, and nomination and election of the board vice president and board president for the 2014 calendar year.

Discussion and possible action items include adoption of the reserve fund policy and Resolution 2014-02, which calls for voluntary water conservation; adoption of a California Environmental Quality Act notice of exemption for the temporary suspension of supplemental stream flow release requirements project; adoption of Resolution 2014-03, which requests a change of board member election dates and board assignments and meeting schedules for 2014.

There also will be a closed session to discuss pending litigation.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Lake County Department of Public Works will soon be starting its annual routine roadside weed abatement program through the application of herbicides along certain county-maintained roads.

Should residents or property owners with frontage along the roads listed below desire that no weed abatement occur adjacent to their residence or property, they must contact the Department of Public Works prior to Feb. 26, unless a previous request for “no spray” was submitted to the agency.

If you would like to remove an existing “no spray” status, you must contact the Department of Public Works at 707-263-2341.

As a reminder, property owners are responsible for maintaining their frontage in such a way that does not create nuisance conditions.

While property owners can request that their frontage not be sprayed, they must otherwise maintain their frontage to avoid creating a public nuisance that could be caused by overgrown weeds such as fire hazard, aesthetics, sight distances, etc.

To assist those property owners who object to spraying, the Department of Public Works will review their proposed maintenance plans at no charge and issue a no-fee encroachment permit to perform the maintenance as necessary.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Public Services Director Caroline Chavez reported that South Lake Refuse for the unincorporated areas will be closed Monday, Feb. 17, in observance of the Presidents’ Day holiday.

Curbside service will be delayed one day for the rest of the week.
