LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Fairgrounds is reviving one of the county’s favorite holiday events.

The Holiday Craft and Gift Bazaar will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, in Lewis Hall at the fairgrounds, 401 Martin St.

Admission is free.

This event will showcase the talented works of local makers and crafters. 

There will be a special “Ladies Night” on Friday, Nov. 14, serving appetizers and beverages prior to the weekend show.

If you’re looking for that perfect gift or gifts for your loved ones, you won’t want to miss this show.
 
Booth spaces also are available.

Spaces are 10-feet by 10-feet and two tables and chairs are included for the fee of $75 for all three showings. Space is limited.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Soroptimist International of Clear Lake recently made a generous donation to Sponsoring Survivorship.

Soroptimist President Sally J Munger presented a check for $500 to Sponsoring Survivorship cofounder, Shirley Crawford.

Sponsoring Survivorship holds an annual fun run – held most recently in early October – to raise funds to help local breast cancer survivors in their battle against the disease.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Economic Development Advisory Committee, or LEDAC, meeting that had been scheduled for this Wednesday has been canceled.

The group will next meet on Wednesday, Dec. 10.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – The Middletown Area Town Hall (MATH) group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13.

The meeting will take place in the activity room at the Middletown Community Center, 21256 Washington St.

The public is invited to attend.

Agenda topics include new elementary school traffic on Big Canyon Road, traffic on Santa Clara Street, landscaping in front of the Middletown Library and senior center building, naming of the new town park, decorations at the park, a chili cookoff planned for next May and the Dec. 11 meeting agenda.

MATH meetings are subject to videotaping. Meeting proceedings may be available for viewing on public access television and/or the Internet.

MATH – established by resolution of the Lake County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 12, 2006 – is a municipal advisory council serving the residents of Anderson Springs, Cobb, Coyote Valley (including Hidden Valley Lake), Long Valley and Middletown.

The group’s current board of directors include Chairman Fletcher Thornton, Vice Chair Claude Brown, Secretary Ken Gonzales, and members Laura Helton and Mike Tabacci.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Veterans, patriots and history buffs will appreciate the new book donated to Middletown and Santa Rosa libraries, “Twice Heroes” by Tom Graves.

With portraits and personal interviews by the author, the book spotlights Nisei soldiers, Americans of Japanese descent, who found bravely in World War II and Korea during a time when they were not considered full US citizens.

Facing the enemy overseas and prejudice back home, these women and men later were recognized for their sacrifice and awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, our nation’s highest civilian honor, in 2011.

“My goal was to put a name and a face to these brave soldiers so their stories would be remembered,” said Graves, keynote speaker for Sonoma County Japanese American Civil League (JACL) in Sebastopol Saturday. “I didn’t learn about WWII Japanese American incarceration until 2001. Why isn’t this part of American history taught in our schools? I felt compelled to tell their stories.”

The author addressed the JACL general meeting on the group’s 80th anniversary.

Established in 1934, the group’s meeting began with the pledge of allegiance.

A moment of silence followed, honoring the memory of local soldiers of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team who died in battle 70 years ago, Peter Masaoka, Leo Kikuchi and Joe Yasuda.

Sebastopol’s Enmanji Memorial Hall, in which the meeting was held, is dedicated to these men.

Sonoma County Japanese American Citizens League ( http://www.sonomacojacl.org/ ) focuses on educating the public about the Japanese American experience, monitoring legislation affecting minority human and civil rights, addressing hate crimes and fostering Japanese American culture.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Shannon Michele of Cache Creek Catering and Lake County Wine Studio are presenting a monthly food and wine series featuring gourmet appetizers paired with select Lake County wines. Locally produced foods are proudly featured as key ingredients in recipes created by Cache Creek Catering.

The series is held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the second Friday of each month.

The per person cost is $30 and 25 for wine studio club members. Reservations are required.

Nov. 14 will open with an appetizer of herbed cheese on crackers with Lavender Blue Viognier. 

The salad course will pair Fore Family Grenache Blanc with arugula, spinach, Fuji persimmon and pomegranate with pomegranate-honey dressing, followed by roasted turkey with Thanksgiving pan sauce, sausage and sage stuffing with dried cherry/cranberry sauce paired with Aliénor Cellars Coté de Castellero Syrah. 

The dessert course will be pumpkin cheesecake with Lavender Blue Tawny Syrah dessert wine.

Dec. 12 will be the next date to follow for the Local Cuisine Scene event with the theme, “Winter Night Warm Up and Lake County Tempranillos.”
