LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Green Party will hold its next meeting on Sunday, Aug. 17.

The group will meet from 4 to 7 p.m. at Round Table Pizza, 821 11th St. in Lakeport.

The meeting will feature a debate between incumbent District 2 Supervisor Jeff Smith and challener Jeri Spittler. They are in a fall runoff for the supervisorial seat.

The debate will be filmed to show on Channel 8.

There will be no host food and drink at the meeting.

Party membership is not required to attend. Meetings are open to all interested people.

Voter registration forms will be available for those who haven't registered to vote yet.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Lake County Hunger Task Force will offer canning lessons on Wednesday, Aug. 20, in Kelseyville.

The techniques of water bath canning will be taught from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Kelseyville Presbyterian Church, located on the corner of Church and Third streets.

Pears and tomatoes will be featured, as those are the most abundant crops in Lake County at this time of year.

The Hunger Task Force feels that canning is one of the best ways to utilize the crops, but is becoming a lost art.

All participants should come dressed for a hands-on experience in each step of the process.

Upon completion of the lessons, each participating household will be given a water bath canner, a book, a jar lifter, and a case of canning jars to keep.    

Space in the class will be limited to twelve, and please, no children.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around the North Coast during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.

LAKE COUNTY

Highway 20

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Gravel Plant Road to Walker Ridge Road through Friday, Aug. 15. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
Highway 29

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from near Kelseyville Auto Sales to the junction of Route 281 beginning Tuesday, Aug. 19. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays.
 
– Pavement repairs from Mockingbird Lane to 1.2 miles south of Tule Lake Road will continue through Friday, Aug. 15. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
MENDOCINO COUNTY
 
Highway 1

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Gualala to Pirates Drive beginning Tuesday, Aug. 19. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Culvert rehabilitation north of Collins Viaduct will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Replacement of the Greenwood Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
– Guardrail installation and paving along the Navarro Grade will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from the Salmon Creek Bridge to Gordon Lane through Friday, Aug. 15. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

Highway 101
 
– Caltrans will perform slide repairs near the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge (near Frog Woman Rock). Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.
 
– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from First Street to the Hopland CAL FIRE station beginning Monday, Aug. 18. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Northern Aggregates Inc. of Willits has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit to add turn lanes just south of Black Bart Drive. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.
 
– Highway construction 1.0 mile south of the Haehl Overhead Bridge to the Haehl Overhead Bridge will continue through Friday, Aug. 15. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 5-minute delays.
 
– Highway construction from 0.8 to miles south of the North Willits Railroad Crossing to Reynolds Highway will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
Highway 128

– Guardrail repairs at the junction of Routes 1/128 will continue through Friday, Aug. 15. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Caltrans will be performing routine maintenance from Philo School Road to East Limits Philo beginning Tuesday, Aug. 19. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Culvert rehabilitation at various locations from the Ornbaun Creek Bridge to Big Oak Drive will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
Highway 253

– Culvert rehabilitation at various locations from 2.9 miles south of Butler Ranch to Butler Ranch will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.

LUCERNE, Calif. – The next general meeting of Lucerne Friends for Locally Owned Water – or FLOW – will held Saturday, Aug. 16.

The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Rose Room at the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center, 3985 Country Club Drive.

Topics will include the Water Revenue Adjustment Mechanism fees.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Flotilla 88 of Lake County has canceled its meeting, which had been set for Saturday, Aug. 16.

The organization will be back to its meeting schedule with its next gathering on Saturday, Sept. 20.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – The Middletown Luncheon Club invites the community to join its members on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at noon for an entertaining lunch at the Middletown Senior Center at 21256 Washington St., behind the new park.  

All ages are welcome and lunch is only $5 per person.

If you haven’t enjoyed a meal at the new senior center yet, this is the perfect time to try it.

The “speaker” this month is really the entertainer of the month.

David Neft will be bringing his keyboard and his bad jokes to the senior center. He’ll reminisce about the life he led as a musician on the road in the 1970s and attendees will get an opportunity to see if we can stump him with TV theme song and movie music requests.

The senior center will be preparing a delicious, healthy meal of sweet and sour pork, brown rice and Oriental slaw. Dessert and beverages are included. This month’s serving group is the Cobb Mountain Lions.
