LAKEPORT, Calif. – Sons In Retirement (SIR) announced that plans for the remainder of 2014 include the final out-of-town golf tournament in Monterey Sept. 23 to 25.

There also will be three local tournaments that will be held on Oct. 8 and 23 and Nov. 5.

The travel group has plans for two remaining trips. 

A trip to the races at Golden Gate Fields on Oct. 16.

This trip will cost $60 per person and includes round trip bus transportation, gourmet luncheon buffet in the reserved dining room, personal betting window and official racing program. 

The second trip is a three-day, two-night trip Dec. 6 to 8 to see “Christmas Wonderland” in Reno. 

The cost is $162 per person double occupancy at the Silver Legacy and includes bus transportation, two breakfast food coupons, cocktail party and dinner and the show at the El Dorado. 

There are two remaining special events. 

The annual picnic will be held on Oct. 10 and the Christmas dinner dance on Dec. 12.

These are member and sweethearts functions and not open to the general public. 

There will be no charge for the picnic which will be held at the county park except that each couple is asked to bring a prize for the drawing. The cost for the Christmas function is yet to be determined. 

Sons In Retirement is a social organization for men of retirement age who are pursuing the goal of enjoying their later years. It has 142 branches with 18,000 members throughout the state.

Branch 168 holds a Luncheon on the second Friday of each month at the Conference room at Konocti Vista Casino.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Southshore Little League will hold its annual meeting and election of the board of directors on Monday, Sept. 15.

The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive.

Everyone is welcome.  

All board positions are up for election. 

Cleared volunteers from this past season can be nominated to fill board positions.  

Come support youth baseball and softball players at this important meeting.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Southshore Little League will hold additional Fall Ball signups Wednesday, Sept. 3, and Friday, Sept. 5.

Signups will take place at the Redbud Park baseball field on Ball Park Avenue from 5 to 7 p.m. both days.

The signups are for those currently league age, 9 to 15 years, for fall co-ed baseball.

The cost is $25 per player and each will receive a team t-shirt and hat.

Fall Ball starts in September and will run until mid-November.

There will be two divisions: ages 9 to 12 and ages 13 to 15.

The 12-year-olds moving to the junior division next season will be placed in the 13 to 15 division.

COBB, Calif. – Come celebrate the end of summer with a special event on Cobb Mountain on Saturday, Sept. 6.

The Funky Dozen will perform at the event, which takes place from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Village Pub.

The admission cost is $10 per person.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – The Lower Lake High School Class of 2015 Sober Grad Committee is hosting an all-you-can-eat pizza fundraiser on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The dinner will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at DJ's Pizza, 16135 Main St. in Lower Lake.

Tickets at the door cost $8 each.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Shannon Michele of Cache Creek Catering and Lake County Wine Studio are presenting a monthly food and wine series featuring gourmet appetizers paired with select Lake County wines.

Locally produced foods are proudly featured as key ingredients in recipes created by Cache Creek Catering.

The series is held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the second Friday of each month. The per person cost is $30 and $25 for Wine Studio club members. Reservations are required.

Sept. 12 will feature Lake County Chardonnays and locally grown pears.

The first course will be a salad of star crimson and Bartlett pears, heirloom apple, toasted almonds and apple cider vinaigrette with brie toasts paired with Gregory Graham Chardonnay, followed by a layered lasagna of pork, roasted Bartlett pear and butternut squash with a savory Gruyère Sage sauce paired with Shed Horn Cellars Chardonnay. 

The dessert course will be Pear Clafouti with the Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc from Aliénor Cellars.

Lake County Wine Studio is both a gallery for display of arts and a tasting room, wine bar and retail shop for the fine wines of Lake County. 

Artist’s shows are held on a monthly basis with art and wine receptions held the first Friday and subsequent Saturday of each month.

The gallery is located at 9505 Main St. in Upper Lake. It is open Monday, 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, from 1 to 7 p.m.; and Friday, from 1 to 8 p.m.

The art show on display for the month of September is paintings by Randall Jahn.
