LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Department of Public Works reported Tuesday morning that High Street between 10th and 11th street will be closed for most of the day due to a water leak.

The public is asked to be aware of the Public Works personnel who are in the area working and to use alternate routes.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake Redevelopment Oversight Board will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive.

The board will consider the appointment of the chair and vice chair for 2015.

Also on the agenda is approval of a resolution authorizing the submission of the recognized obligation payments schedule 15-16 A for the period July 1 to Dec. 31, 2015.

Board members include member-at-large Bill Perkins, Clearlake City Manager Joan Phillipe, Clearlake City Councilman Bruno Sabatier, Lake County Fire Chief Willie Sapeta, V. Richard Savarese of the Yuba College Chancellor's Office and Supervisor Jeff Smith.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – Tickets are now on sale for “Fashion Festival 2015,” a fundraising event for the Lower Lake Historical Schoolhouse Museum.

The show begins at noon on Saturday, March 28, in the Weaver auditorium, 16435 Main St., Lower Lake.

The cost is $20 per person, and reservations are required.

The event will feature spring fashions from Lisa’s Sizes 3 to 60 in Clearlake and Anna’s Boutique in the Clearlake Riviera.

This year’s theme is “Picnic by the Lake.”

Everyone attending is encouraged to wear a spring bonnet and awards will be given for the best themed, most beautiful and most original hats.

Celebrity waiters will be serving a delicious luncheon, and a wonderful array of prizes will be raffled off, with a $100 money hat as the top prize.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Three Clear Lake High School Cardinal wrestlers are advancing to the 2015 NCS Championships.

Tyler Buchholz, Julian Lewis and Isaac Lewis put in performances at the CMC League Wrestling Championships on Saturday, Feb. 21, that earned them the championship spots.

A first-, second- or third-place would advance any wrestler to the championships.  

Buchholz and the Lewises were the only three wrestlers from Clear Lake High that attended the event.

Julian Lewis, a senior and first seed in the 222-pound class, was a clear favorite going into the tournament.

His dominating performance – pinning all of those who got in his way – advanced him to the NCS as the sixth seed, with a 31-6 overall record.

Buchholz, a junior and fourth seed 162-pound wrestler, also wrestled very well, going 2-1 on the day with two pins and a third place finish, which also earned him a trip to the NCS Championships. 

Freshman Isaac Lewis, the fourth seed in the 154 pound class, was looking for the upset that would advance him to the next level, and he did just that, with a 3-1 record.

In some very exciting close battles, Lewis “left it all on the mat,” said Head Coach Aden Pierson.

Lewis also finished third place to earn his championship spot.

“I am very proud of all of them; they did what was asked of them,” said Pierson.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Members of the Lake County Rocket Club gathered at Taylor Observatory on Saturday for their first launch of the year.

Some rocketeers launched models they had made from a kit while others launched “Frankenstein rockets” of their own design made up of parts of various kits.

Students have been working on these rockets since September.

The Rocket Club is now in its third year. Half the members are new while quite a few students have been in two or three years.

All agree that the club is “awesome and fun.”

Students come from Terrace Middle School, Mountain Vista Middle School, Lower Lake Elementary, Pathways Charter and the Lake County International Charter School.

This free club meets at Taylor Observatory every Wednesday, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and is open to any fourth through eighth grader in the county.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Blue Heron 4-H Club of Lakeport represented well at the Cloverdale Citrus Fair Rabbit and Cavy show last Sunday.

Three members of the Blue Heron 4-H Club participated in rabbit and/or cavy showmanship, and breed and fur judging in a double show.

Charlie Adams earned a second place ribbon in novice cavy showmanship, best of breed for his giant chinchilla rabbit, best of breed for his American Chinchilla rabbit, best opposite sex of breed for his American Cavy and first for teddy cavy intermediate.

Robin Adams placed first in novice cavy showmanship, which bumped her up to compete in junior showmanship, earning her a third place ribbon in that category.

Robin also won best of breed with her giant chinchilla rabbit, best of breed for her American Chinchilla rabbit, best opposite sex of breed for her American Chinchilla, second for teddy cavy intermediate and two first place wins for fur with her American Chinchilla.

Jaden Bussard earned a fifth place ribbon in intermediate rabbit showmanship, second place for breed with his Holland Lop rabbit and two first place wins for fur with his Holland Lop.

All three had a good time and showed great sportsmanship with their fellow 4-Hers and show attendees.
