CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. – The Lake County Stonewall Democratic Club will host its monthly potluck and meeting on Monday, Sept. 22.

The meeting will be held in the social hall of the Clearlake Oaks United Methodist Church, 12487 The Plaza.

The potluck begins at 6:30 p.m., with the meeting to be called to order at 7 p.m.

The guest speaker this month will be Emerald Unity Coalition on Measure O.

This meeting is open to the public and the community is encouraged to attend.

Please bring a canned or other nonperishable item to the Stonewall Club Meeting. All donations go to support Community Care HIV/AIDS Program (C.C.H.A.P.) Food Pantry here in Lake County.

HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, Calif. – Signups for membership in local Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

The signups will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. at the firehouse in Hidden Valley Lake.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – District 3 supervisorial candidate Jim Steele will hold a campaign event on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The event will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Lodge at Blue Lakes, 5135 Highway 20 in Upper Lake.

There will be a complimentary Mexican meal served with a no-host bar. In addition, there will be raffle tickets and prizes, and music by David Neft.

LUCERNE, Calif. – The Lucerne Alpine Senior Center will host a fun Western Band Potluck from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17.

The third Wednesday of every month features this regular fundraiser and music event at the center, located at 3985 Country Club Drive.

The High Notes band is featured and will get toes tapping and people dancing.

This potluck fundraiser has a $12 admission. Bring something wonderful to share.

All proceeds from the meal benefit the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center, a not-for-profit that serves Northshore senior populations with on site lunches, Meals on Wheels and advocacy.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. - The Sierra Club Lake Group will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

The meeting, which is free and open to the public as always, will be held at 7 p.m. at the Lower Lake Methodist Church Community Room, 16255 Second St.

Lake County Department of Water Resources Invasive Species Coordinator (and Lake Group Executive Committee member) Carolyn Ruttan will give the club an advance look at an exciting proposal to create a Clear Lake Environmental Research Center, or CLERC.

The idea is to use the lake as a laboratory and educational facility where scientists can scope out questions that will have important local consequences but also may go far beyond local boundaries to have regional, national and international significance. Visit www.clerc.co to find out more.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Making good compost successfully, in a reasonable amount of time in the climatic conditions of Lake County, takes more than simply throwing garden refuse and/or kitchen scraps onto a pile in your backyard.

The UC Master Gardeners of Lake County will hold a workshop on backyard composting and vermicomposting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the at the Agricultural Center, 883 Lakeport Blvd., Lakeport, a wheelchair accessible facility.

Preregistration is required for this workshop as space is limited. A $5 materials fee is requested.

At this workshop, the Master Gardeners will provide instruction on how to speed up and troubleshoot the composting process, allowing you to produce your own premium soil conditioner for your vegetable garden.
